The Food Edition is an exciting new blog for Diabetes WA!

It has been created for the month of August to share credible, evidence-based nutrition information on current hot topics to keep you in the loop. There is so much conflicting information when it comes to nutrition and what we should or shouldn’t be doing. So we are here to clear up any confusion!

Who are we? We are two nutrition academics from Curtin University and we are committed to providing you with clear and concise nutrition info that is based on science and not on fads. We have a great passion for food and nutrition (yes, we DO love to eat!)

Why I decided to pursue Dietetics:

I think like most dietitians, I have a great love for food. I love to eat and enjoy trying new things! Food is such a big part of our everyday life and I find it fascinating how it can impact our body and how we function.

My aim is to help people be able to enjoy eating food whilst providing them with adequate nutrition to meet their needs.

3 foods I can’t live without:

  1. Some good ol’ baked eggs
  2. Vietnamese rice spring rolls – It’s been a staple dinner time meal in my household growing up
  3. Noodles – pretty much any type!

It makes me happy when:

I catch up with friends over a delicious dinner that concludes with my favourite meal- dessert.

I like to relax by:

Going for a walk or going out for a nice brunch. I also enjoy cooking (not so much the cleaning part of it though).

Why I decided to pursue Dietetics:

I chose dietetics because I love food and I am very interested in the human body. I love learning about the science of different foods and how they interact with our body. My goal is to help people get the most out of the food they eat to optimise their health.

3 foods I can’t live without:

  1. Burgers! – I can’t resist a fresh grilled chicken burger. I’d have to say it’s my favourite food.
  2. Pasta – when I feel like treating myself, I love a yummy creamy pasta!
  3. Chocolate – my go-to dessert food is anything with chocolate.

It makes me happy when:

I go out for breakfast! I love breakfast food – my fav would have to be scrambled eggs on toast, with coffee of course! It’s such a nice treat on a lovely weekend.

I like to relax by:

Reading a book or watching a movie. I’m crazy for comfort!

Diabetes WA is the peak body and voice of diabetes in Western Australia.
